87, Connoisseurs' Guide, February 2008

First impressions can be misleading, and this wine certainly has more to offer than its first nose revealed. Indeed, it is also a bit truncated on the palate, and only on second glance does it show youthfully alive raspberry syrup and cherry juice flavors buttressed by plenty of enlivening acidity. Even if it never fills out fully, this one is going to be a good mate to grilled salmon filets and also to veal scaloppini over time.

Highly Recommended, Koeppel on Wine, February 2008

Well, boy, what a sweetheart of a pinot noir this is. Sixty percent of the grapes for the wine come from selected vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands; the rest come from Morgan’s Double L Vineyard, which supports 12 clones of pinot noir, hence the wine’s nickname. The wine is warm and rich, offering smoky black cherry and plum scents and flavors permeated by siftings of cranberry, cola and baking spice, with a hint of blueberry tart. Deftly balanced oak 11 months in 40% new French barrels -- and mild, slightly chewy tannins give support and structure without detracting from the winsome flavors or a lovely, satiny texture. Morgan makes 12,000 cases of this wine, so there’s plenty to go around; every restaurant should stock up. Drink now through 2010 or ’11.

87, Wine Enthusiast, June 2008

This bottling is Morgan's basic appellation blend. It's a big voluptuous wine, as Santa Lucia Highlands Pinots tend to be. With its highly extracted, jammy cherry, currant and cola flavors, it's a palate flatterer, even if it's not particularly delicate or complex.
