2019 G17 Syrah
G17 is a blend of 86% syrah, 10% grenache, and 4% tempranillo sourced primarily from the Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation of Monterey County. Cloudy mornings, mid-day sunshine with strong winds, and evening fog create a cool Region I type climate. The long growing season allows for gentle ripening, creating intense flavors with balanced acidity.
The name “G17” refers to one of Monterey County's best known route, linking several of our grape growing appellations.
This Rhone-style blend has a garnet color highlighted with purple edges. Aromas of red plum, black fruits, violets, and hints of clove jump out of the glass. The wine is medium-plus bodied with crisp acidity, offering a mouthful of red and black fruits supported by licorice. Its weight and balance make it a perfect pairing with anything off the grill.

“Dark purple color, fresh juicy and smooth, bursting with blackberry fruit, rich and bright, exceptional.”
- Anthony Dias Blue, August 2021
"Hooray for cool climate Syrah! Dan Lee's team gets it right here, delivering black and blue berries, orange zest, meat, soft pepper and clove aromas and flavors over bright acidity and supple grip that keeps the flavors coming. I can't say enough good things about Morgan these days." - Rich Cook, December 2021
"Blending 86% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 4% Tempranillo that is aged for 10 months in 18% new French oak barrels, this wine shows a beautiful medium ruby core with a light purple rim. It is black-fruit driven with flavors of plum skin, violet flowers, cracked black peppercorn and toasted baking spices. Balanced acidity, medium tannins and a medium body complete the wine." - Jeremy Young, December 2021
"Fresh blackberry and raspberry aromas meet with hints of lilac and freshly cracked white pepper on the nose of this bottling, which also includes 10% Grenache and 4% Tempranillo. A medium-bodied, delicately tannic palate offers more berry, pepper and fresh herb flavors." -
Matt Kettmann, December 2021
"Saturated ruby. Black raspberry, cherry and a building floral nuance on the spice-accented nose. Broad, fleshy and seamless in the mouth, offering juicy dark berry and floral pastille flavors that are complemented by hints of licorice and cola. A smoky quality appears on the gently tannic finish, which lingers with very good tenacity. 18% new French oak." - Josh Raynolds, May 2022
"Plump and zesty, with shades of cherry and red plum, spice and sassafras accents and refined tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2028." - Tim Fish, May 2022
